Oct 2021 Edit 2: That one camera that drained batteries? I decided to flip through the files before I formatted things and sell this system. It recorded lots of 4-5 minute videos that were frozen. The picture moves (and the timestamp in the corner of the video updates) for 2 seconds, then it freezes and I have 4 more minutes of it frozen. Computer plays it for 4 minutes, but the timestamp never changes and the video is frozen. So weird. Does explain the battery drain.

Oct 2021 Edit: I''m throwing in the towel and getting rid of these. I had one camera whose battery was draining in a week wile the others lasted multiple weeks. Add that to the buggy notifications /video recording ("You had motion at 12:15! We didn''t record a video!") and it''s not worth the hassle any more. I will give them credit that I found out the microSD card (in the central hub, the cameras do not have one) stored the videos clearly labeled and in an mp4 format and not something proprietary. That''s nice if you need to get the original file to the police or something. Anywho, I''m formatting the card, cleaning the cameras, and getting rid of this system. I''m disappointed given the Lorex reputation and the price.

Aug 2021 Edit: Lorex updated the firmware on the cameras and base. I don''t know what they fixed (everything below is still the same), but the nighttime vision is now noticeably worse. I''ve given it a few weeks hoping they''d notice this on their own and push out another update, but that has not happened.

Before the firmware update, at the start of a nighttime clip (so it''s using the camera''s IR light to see) it was a bit too bright and washed out, then within a couple of second dropped down to a good level of illumination for the rest of the clip. So, not awesome, but not bad. AFTER the firmware update, it starts off at a pretty good level of illumination/exposure (yay!), then a few seconds in, goes darker than heck for a couple of seconds, then recovers just as the clip ends. So, now I can kind of see what triggers the camera as it is on the edge walking past, then the picture goes dark as it''s right in front of the camera, and then the camera recovers just in time for me to see the tail end of whatever it was. This is consistent for ALL nighttime video clips, regardless if it''s a deer at 4 feet or a possum at 15 feet that triggers it. It''s terrible. Hopefully they''ll correct this behavior in the next firmware update.

July 2021 Edit: Lorex has added an email alert for low batteries, yay! That''s the only good thing to report. I have one camera burning through it''s battery weeks faster than the others (and, below I said they take at least 4 hours to charge, it''s darn near 8-- even on a fast charger). I think it is due to false alerts, but see the last two photos I added-- most video alerts I get are empty for this camera (and, less frequently, on the other cameras). The video thumbnail will sometimes even show a deer smack in the middle-- so clearly it triggered on motion-- but it will tell me "no recordings" when I tap on it. It''s frustrating. Something triggered it, many times it will save an updated thumbnail even, but there will be no video to play. Also, if a camera battery dies, you are unable to play any saved videos-- which is ridiculous since the videos are stored on a microSD card on a central hub and not on the individual cameras. My rating is unchanged, I still can''t recommend this system.

June 2021 Edit: Still having the alert and no video issue with these. Also, logged in the other day to find out that 2 of my 3 cameras were offline and apparently I missed the new low battery notification. Also, because Lorex didn''t go with USB-C, each battery takes over 4 hours to charge. I think it''s closer to 6 hours, but I lost track of time. I''ll try to keep an eye on the actual charge time for my next update.

Late May 2021 Edit 2: So, while there is a battery low notification now, there is no notification if your main hub goes offline. When that happens, your cameras can be fully charged, but without the hub, you''re dead in the water. Also, the alert for new video that you can''t watch still happens a month plus into owning this. See the screenshot-- clearly there were some deer in the first few clips-- the thumbnail updated-- but when I tap on any of the items in that list, I get a No Video Found error. This is for all of my cameras, every day. Some clips will play, more than 50% will not play and there is no workaround (like using a PC, etc.) to try and figure out what caused the camera to give you a motion alert. I still cannot recommend this system. Lorex can do better and I am disappointed that this system was not better tested and vetted prior to being released.

May 2021 Edit 2: What?! I got a low battery alert! Heaven forbid, Lorex is actually adding features that should have been there prior to release. On the flip side, I have one camera battery that is draining 3 times faster than the others and I am still getting a load of alerts during the day (my fault, sensitivity is purposely set high to aid in capturing nighttime critters) without any recorded video (Lorex''s fault and they don''t know why).

May 2021 Edit: Lorex Tech Support actually reached out to me, so I guess my issue was finally escalated to their US offices at some point. I''m bumping this to two stars, but I can still not recommend the system until more bugs are sorted out. I appears that the camera system has stopped trying to rename itself (it''s kept the same name for a week now), but all of the other issues persist. The guy that helped me on the phone was pleasant suggested deleting and re-adding the system to my phone-- and I will try that, but I doubt that will fix any issues. For the other issues I raised, he said he would voice the concerns to the app developers, but that there were no fixes at the moment.

    Original Review:

I have an existing, wired Lorex system and love it, so I was excited to order this system and expand my camera coverage. While this system has much potential that may be addressed in a firmware update, it is currently plagued by too many software bugs and quirks for me to recommend it. On top of that, I just spent over 30 minutes on the phone with tech support, and had to call 4 times after they hung up on me 5-10 minutes into the first three calls-- and at the end of the final call, they had no useful suggestions and did not resolve any issues.

April 2021 Edit: I added a couple more good/bad points about this system below, but my overall recommendation of Do Not Buy is unchanged.

    The good:
    -Clean, modern looking design
-Easy to pair wifi cameras to the main hub (press a button, select the camera that pops up 10 seconds later)
-Super easy to pair with phone app (take a picture of a QR code on the hub, that''s it)
-When it records video, it is clean, crisp, good quality
    -Good IR illumination at night
-Good video recording at night (no false alerts)
-Recordings are stored on a microSD card on at the hub (not in the cloud, not on the camera)
-When it does record, playback is clear even if your camera connection is spotty (since it is playing from the hub)

    The bad/Everything else:
I''m going to number these paragraphs so it''s easier to follow.

    1) I''m CONSTANTLY getting false alerts during the day. The app has a grid overlay on the video where you can select what zones to look for motion in. I have only the immediate foreground selected (and have excluded the trees, sky, etc.) and during the day, I am constantly getting motion alerts. I wouldn''t mind, except when I go to the list of alerts (where you can tap on them to play video), 95% of them give me a "no recorded video" error. I''d guess it''s the trees moving, but it could also be someone casing out my property. There''s no video, so I don''t know.
    2) Tech support is useless. I was hung up on 3 times today 5 to 10 minutes into each call without warning. On the 4th time I got the first lady again (I had to call from a different number to get through, what the heck Lorex) and she was super flustered and made up all sorts of excuses. I believe they are hanging up on me because they aren''t able to help (due to the lack of internal documentation on this system) and they are being graded on how long the calls last.
    3) These are so new Tech Support has no documentation for the techs to even reference on these and they have so far refused to escalate to support that has information on these. On my 4th call, 10 minutes in she told me to change the sensitivity setting and call back in later. Look, I don''t care if I get 100 alerts a day, as long as there is video. Changing the sensitivity setting will only mask this software problem.
3a) In addition, the tech support wanted me email/user name and password so they could log into the system and poke around. For some products I am okay with this, but it was clear that the reason she was asking is because she had no info on her end and had zero idea what she was up against or how it worked. She didn''t even grasp that these fed back wirelessly to a central hub. That''s not a mark against her, but it is a serious mark against Lorex for rolling these out without giving proper training to the folks that will help support and troubleshoot these systems.
    4) These are made mostly out of plastic, and the battery door/cover is thin enough that I worry about long term longevity
    5) Batteries did not come charged
    6) These can be plugged into the wall, but they arrived one cable and wall plug short of being able to plug in all the units. On top of that, this was all delivered in a plain cardboard box (no commercial packaging), but that may be because it was part of the testing program.
    7) While setup was pretty easy, there were nearly no paper instructions. Only 1 small brochure that was minimally useful
    8) I have these at the edge of my very large yard and they are probably on the edge of the wifi range. So, to access live view, it takes 5-10 seconds to initially load and it is a very poor quality image. If I select HD, there''s so much data to stream that sometimes it will never load even after 1-2 minutes. This may not be an issue if you have these inside or closer to the main hub.
    9) The system keeps renaming itself. I changed the name of it, and the next day it''s back to "Wireless System". I''ve tried changing the name half a dozen times, but it resets on it''s own every time. I have given up on this.
    10) The camera mounts are that same, thin, brittle feeling plastic. Again, I worry about the long term longevity. The aren''t secure from theft and these cameras take seconds to remove, however many systems with truly wireless (battery) cameras also have this flaw.
    11) There is no low battery alert. I went to check in on my cameras one morning and one was dead. I had received no alert about it that it was low on battery or had disconnected. Heck, all three could have disconnected and if you aren''t paying attention you may be days or weeks without them running.
    12) You can play back the video on your phone, but you can''t directly download a clip. It wants you to start playing the clip, then hit a record button to start saving that bit of the clip (and that will save it to your phone). There is always a delay for it to start recording the clip you want to save, so no matter how fast your trigger finger is, you won''t be able to save the first 1-2 seconds of the clip-- which is also when the most motion often occurs since this is right when the camera woke up due to motion
    13) In addition to the app, I use Lorex''s software on my PC for my wired cameras. It''s not awesome, but it''s pretty good. This same software can find my wireless camera system and displays the IP addresses of everything (so it knows it is there), but for the life of me I cannot connect to it via my PC to see playback or change any settings. So I''m stuck with the small screen on my phone for all operations
    14) It''s not USB-C and the batteries take ages to charge. It''s 2021, why wouldn''t you use USB-C?

I was going to give this 2 stars and include a video (apparently I have armadillos here!) as when it works, it''s pretty nice. But looking at the laundry list of issues above and the total lack of support from Lorex (after calling in multiple times), I can''t recommend this in any fashion whatsoever and I don''t want someone just to see my video and go "oh, that''s a good quality video!". This system has good potential, but there are far too many issues to ignore. If they come out with a firmware update and sort a significant portion of these issues, I will happily update my review. Until, stay away from this system.

We decided to give this Loredo system a try as we have 3 kids in the house and would like to keep an eye on them when we’re around the house doing chores and such. I was able to get all 3 cameras positioned around the house and plugged in, but setup was a little tricky on it’s own. My home wifi network has no connection issues but the app was a hit and miss getting them to pair correctly. After a few tries, I was able to get them paired successfully in the app.

The video feed is clear enough to see my kids around the house however there has been a few times where I have been away from home and tried viewing what my kids are doing when my husband is home with them and I’ll get an “offline” error when they are clearly online. I’ve even had my husband check his phone and his will show up just fine. I’ll need to force quit the app and try several times and then they will connect - minor inconvenience but still bad for me since things happen in the moment and the fact that an “offline” message would appear even though the system is fully connected is a big enough issue to dock a star. I do like that the app allows me to change the sensitivity setting of the cameras - that way it’s not picking up the slightest movement (like a bug flying by) and more so movement from my family overall. I do like being able to view the previous feed to see what my girls have done throughout the day when I’m not home, and I love that the my husband can check in on us when he’s at work and we’re home. We’ve also had incidents where our outdoor cameras wont pick up something and one of our cameras is positioned in the corner ceiling of our home where it picks up that bare spot, so that’s a great thing.

Overall, the app and system work nicely. The app and the whole pairing/offline issue was enough for me to dock a star because I just can’t have an issue like that happen when we’re away from home, plus the hassle of trying to pair can be very frustrating when you’re doing everything right. Quality on the video however is great and everything you need is in the box to get you started.

First, let me say that this is not my first foray into video camera security. I have been battling the DISASTER THAT IS AT&T residential gateway (aka their "router") and I cannot avoid using it. I am NOT ALONE in this disaster. AT&T just doesn''t play nice with security camera systems.

For several years we had a different internet provider and all we had to do was PORT FORWARD our cameras and it was relatively easy and it worked. We could check our cameras from anywhere. Now this was a system that was installed by a security company.

We eventually ended our contract with the security company and decided to continue unmonitored.

That was working great until we were lured into the promise of gigabit fiber optic internet from AT&T. Our cameras no longer worked with AT&T''s residential gateway.

So we tried two different systems from a big-box store. Neither of them worked so we returned them.

When I saw this Lorex Home Hub with the 2k QHD wire free battery operated security cameras, I decided to give it a shot. The GOOD side is that I already have the WIRED setup where I need the cameras. I have both power and internet available at the locations so I didn''t have to deal with the battery issues that others have had.

We were able to get it to work with our system which is a huge plus, but we also experienced some of the other issues that are very frustrating.

The biggest one is not being able to continuously record. We miss that a great deal from our old system. These cameras only record when they sense motion. You CAN log into the app and watch what is going on, but to record takes a lot of workaround rigmarole that isn''t worth it.

In the end, I would say that this system MIGHT BE WORTH IT to you if you aren''t looking for a full-blown security system. This is kind of like DOORBELL for other parts of your house, not a 24/7 home security system.

The cameras are good and the picture is good. The app could be better and the whole deal might be better with the Lorex Home system, but this is sort of a spin off..

I hope that you found my review helpful. I try to rate the items that I review on Amazon based on my actual experience with them. I don''t generally do a laundry list of features that are already in the description, instead I try to share my personal experience with the product in the hope that you may be using it with a similar "everyperson" point of view and not a professional, "try to make it do everything that it is supposed to do" perspective. I feel like most of us are buying products for the same basic reasons and I don''t always need a review that tells me every detail of the product. I''m not a "professional reviewer," I''m just a guy who likes to share his experience with products - ESPECIALLY when I like them, but also in an effort to warn fellow amazon customers when something isn''t as described or as good as advertised.

    _____
    *Pros:

-2K footage is crisp and clear.
-The camera remembers the HD resolution preference & you don''t have to tap HD every time.
-The speaker is nice and loud.
-The timeline feature is easy to use and navigate.
-Firmware updates are easy and fast to perform.
-Footages get saved to local micro-SD card storage.
-Good value for five 2K cameras that don''t require a subscription.
    _____
    *Neutral:

-Too much wasted empty space in the main Devices app page.
-Upon tapping on a camera, have to tap to turn on audio every single time which is annoying.
    -The range isn''t very good.
-Takes longer than competing products to start live streaming (WiFi or mobile data).
-Sometimes the timeline snapshots require a manual refresh to see the latest recorded videos.
    _____
    *Cons:

-During two-way conversations, the connection drops too frequently.
-When the camera is recording, you can''t access Live View.
-No time option to display in 12-HR format (it''s only a 24-HR option).
-Downloading a clip to the smartphone storage isn''t simple and intuitive.

I only several home security systems - the Logitech Circle 2 , the 3-camera Arlo Pro 2 , and the 2-camera Arlo Pro 3 . Compared against those systems, I''d rate the Lorex higher than the Arlo Pro 3 and about the same level as the Arlo Pro 2 and the Logitech Circle 2.

In terms of visual fidelity, the Lorex 2K system is almost as good as the 2K Arlo Pro 3 cameras. Although the video feeds are smooth and crisp, the color balance and saturation are not as good as the Arlo Pro 3.

The Lorex''s visual quality is better than the 1080P Arlo Pro 2, but it''s a wash between the two systems because the Arlo app is simpler to navigate, easier to download clips to a smartphone, and more responsive. Ditto for the Logitech Circle 2 system.

For $600 (as of 2021-08-04), Lorex''s five 2K camera system is a good value, especially because no monthly subscription fees are required and everything can be saved locally onto a micro-SD of your size. Due to some glitches and bugginess, however, I can''t wholeheartedly recommend it to just everybody.

One of the most frustrating things about this Lorex system is the instability of the two-way communication line. During a conversation, my feed would disconnect several times and it was annoying for both parties.

Second, you can''t activate Live View to see what''s going on if the camera is actively recording a scene. You have to wait until the recording is over before you can either do Live View or see the recorded footage later on. The app doesn''t tell you this, though, and you just get a generic error pop-up.

Thirdly, I was annoyed by the fact that I had to toggle on audio every single time when viewing footage. If I tap to turn on the audio, then the app should remember my preference as it remembers my SD or HD streaming quality preference. Hopefully, the devs will fix this ASAP.

Lastly, I hate not having a simple "download to phone" button to tap if I want to transfer a clip over to my smartphone. For a newly-released modern home security system, this omission is simply asinine.

Despite these grievances, I''m still liking my 5-camera Lorex system very much. The 2K footage is crisp and detailed, the two-way speaker is nice and loud, and the level of customizations the app offers is comprehensive and thorough (e.g., notifications, motion detection, sound, privacy mode, performance mode). As long as the devs continue to work on the app and the firmware and polish things up, the potential for excellence is definitely there.

For now, I give it 3.5 stars. I''ll update the review if things get either better or worse.

My primary attraction to the Lorex is that it has local storage and that it’s a QHD system that is remotely accessible from inside and outside of the home network. The base station can be connected to the internet via ethernet or wifi, The cameras connect to the base station via a second private wifi network that the unit creates. Follow a few prompts, and you are done in about 2 minutes.
The Lorex app allows you to change the multitude of settings, from motion detection sensitivity to activity zones on the phone. I liked the app allowed you to capture picture and videos as needed while remotely having a conversation with a person via the phone app. I also liked that I could turn off all the lights (status light / LED lights / IR lights) via the app. The app is the central part of the experience and I’ll say the ease in reviewing captured footage as well as scrolling through the timeline is a win for me. The app also lets you see how strong the wifi between the base station and the cameras are for optimal placement.

    Pros:
    * Easy to activate, use and live with.
    * Centralized local storage that is remotely accessible, and remote notification of motion activation
    * Love the 2-way microphone/talk feature and the loud alarm siren feature that can be remotely activated.
    * Image quality, image colour rendering, image resolution and wide image field-of-view in “performance” 1080P mode are good enough for surveillance requirements. You can run QHD should you need a higher resolution but you need to plug it in.
    * Amazing and highly functional Lorex Home app for controlling and viewing your cameras
    *dual band wifi capable
    *no subscription necessary
    Cons:
    * Motion detection does not work when facing a wall or shooting through glass
    * The wall mount is horrible. One can quickly remove the camera by just tugging on the camera. If you mount it accessible outside, people can steal it, if you mount it discrete it would be hard to get to it for recharging the batteries.
